Description: |
Supports the independent research of outstanding individuals who have begun their first appointment as an independent investigator at the assistant professor level on or after July 1, 2021. Applicants will be expected to be pursuing independent research careers in biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, immunology, neuroscience, pharmacology, and related areas in chemistry, medicine, and the biological sciences. |

Those interested in applying should send the following preproposal materials as a single pdf document to collabor@umn.edu no later than 4pm on 7/13:
1. Cover page including nominee's name, department, contact info, the year he/she received their PhD and date of first tenure track appointment, title and abstract of the project.
2. Abbreviated CV of nominee (3 pages)
3. Publication list. If nominated, you will be asked to provide the initial page of no more than five papers which you consider to provide evidence of your scientific abilities. Please asterisk those that you would include in your final Searle application. For any papers submitted, but not yet published, please include date of submission in your listing.
4. Research/program proposal (3 pages). Provide an overview of the specific areas of research you would like to carry out in your laboratory in the next few years. Please explain why the work is particularly novel and important. Figures and references need not be included in the character limit, but should be kept to a minimum. Searle proposals will be evaluated on potential for successful results, evidence of creativity, feasibility and clarity of thinking.
5. Letter of nomination from your department head/chair or director.
6. List of people you plan to solicit for reference letters. If selected, they would need to provide a letter for submission to Searle by the deadline of Sept 30th. In the past, Searle has requested three reference letters, please list at least three or up to five possible references.
