TERMS: Applicants/Primary Investigators (PIs) may request funding of up to $150,000 per year (combined direct and indirect costs) for up to three years ($450,000).

Description: For more than a decade, Susan G. Komen Career Catalyst Research (CCR) Grants have fostered promising breast cancer researchers who are in the early stages of their faculty careers by providing support for up to three years of “protected time” for research career development under the guidance of a Mentor Committee. We seek to support those who will emerge as the next key leaders in the fight against breast cancer.

Applicants must be Early Career Investigators who currently hold a faculty appointment or have a formal offer letter from the Institution that confirms position and start date by the Application due date (October 2, 2025) and havenot been held any faculty appointment, including non-tenure and tenure track appointments combined, for more than a total of 6 years by the Application due date (October 2, 2025). All positions that are considered as “Faculty” positions by the Applicant/PIs institution (or prior institution) count towards the 6-year limit. This may include positions such as Instructor, Research Fellow, or other non-tenure track faculty positions as appropriate.

UM Nominations Process: Masonic Cancer Center: A one page description of your project and biosketch(s) in NIH format should be emailed to Laura Klein (klein382@umn.edu) by 5pm, Monday, June 16, 2025.

Project descriptions will be reviewed by the Cancer Cancer Director and appointed committee to determine designation of nominee.

UMN Selection Process

  • Once the internal deadline has passed, if the number of applicants is less than or equal to the number of spots the university is allowed to send forward, the applicants automatically become the UMN nominee(s).
  • If the status of an opportunity is "First-Come, First-Served", there was not time to hold an internal review. Applicants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • If there are no applicants, the status will change to "Contact Us". At this point, the opportunity changes to a first-come, first-served opportunity.
  • If there are multiple applicants, the office coordinating the nomination will determine the review criteria and coordinate the review process. The status will change to "In Review".
  • Once the review has been completed all parties will be notified via email.
  • Nominees will be provided with an email from RIO (or the designated coordinating office) indicating that they are the university's nominee. This letter should accompany the nominee's proposal.
  • SPA is notified of the university's nominee(s) and the status is updated to "PI(s) Selected".
