Description:
The U.S. CHIPS and Science Act1 provides funding to stimulate the resurgence of
microelectronics research and development (R&D), design, and manufacturing in the United
States. A portion of that funding was appropriated to the U.S. National Science Foundation
(NSF) and to the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) for education and workforce
development to address the expected shortage of skilled workers needed by the
microelectronics industry in the United States, including a focus on the semiconductor
workforce. To that end, the purpose of this solicitation is to select an operator for the
National Network Coordination Hub (referred to herein as the “Hub”) that will manage the
National Network for Microelectronics Education (NNME). The NNME will serve as a
coalition of regional programs and centers that will develop and catalyze new and existing
efforts to prepare individuals for roles in the microelectronics workforce.
