Description:	Human-caused climate change is making the world reconsider how electricity is generated. The United States Government (USG), under the leadership of the Biden Administration, has made unprecedented investments in clean energy production with the goals of a decarbonized electricity sector by 2035 and a carbon free economy by 2050. Nuclear power provides almost half of the clean electricity in the United States today and is poised to play a critical role in the nation’s transition to clean energy. Recognizing the need for clean, firm, baseload generation to achieve this ambitious goal while providing economic opportunity and supporting good-paying jobs, the Biden Administration has joined together with other nations in a pledge to triple nuclear energy by 2050. The mission of NE is to advance nuclear energy science and technology to meet U.S. energy, environmental, and economic needs. NE has identified the following four mission goals to address challenges in the nuclear energy sector, help realize the potential of advanced technology, and leverage the unique role of the government in spurring innovation: • Keep existing U.S. nuclear reactors operating. • Deploy new nuclear reactors. • Secure and sustain our nuclear fuel cycle. • Expand international nuclear energy cooperation. All applications submitted under this FOA must demonstrate a strong tie to at least one of the four mission goals and highlights how it supports DOE. Topic Area 1 (TA1) – Training and Workforce Program Demonstration and Implementation (up to $5 Million) Topic Area 2 (TA2) – Curriculum Focused Training Program Development ($500,000)

Cover page including PI name, department, contact information, project title, any co-PI's name and department, and one paragraph project abstract. 2. Project summary (not more than three pages) - to include solicitation specific information. 3. Biosketch of PI and any co-PI's (2 - 5 pages, NSF or NIH format). 4. 2-3 names of possible reviewers (with no Conflicts of Interest) plus 5 keywords to be used as search terms for possible reviewers (can be added to Cover Page) Any questions can be submitted to collabor@umn.edu

UMN Selection Process

Once the internal deadline has passed, if the number of applicants is less than or equal to the number of spots the university is allowed to send forward, the applicants automatically become the UMN nominee(s).
If the status of an opportunity is "First-Come, First-Served", there was not time to hold an internal review. Applicants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
If there are no applicants, the status will change to "Contact Us". At this point, the opportunity changes to a first-come, first-served opportunity.
If there are multiple applicants, the office coordinating the nomination will determine the review criteria and coordinate the review process. The status will change to "In Review".
Once the review has been completed all parties will be notified via email.
Nominees will be provided with an email from RIO (or the designated coordinating office) indicating that they are the university's nominee. This letter should accompany the nominee's proposal.
SPA is notified of the university's nominee(s) and the status is updated to "PI(s) Selected".
