Description: LSAMP is an alliance-based program, whereby a group of institutions of higher education (IHEs) work together to diversify the nation's science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) workforce by increasing the number of STEM baccalaureate and graduate degrees awarded to persons from LSAMP populations. LSAMP populations are defined as persons from groups underrepresented in the STEM enterprise: Blacks and African-Americans, Hispanic and Latino Americans, American Indians, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders. The LSAMP program provides funding to alliances that implement comprehensive, evidence-based, innovative, and sustained strategies that ultimately result in the graduation of well-prepared, highly competitive students from LSAMP populations who pursue graduate studies or careers in STEM, while also supporting knowledge generation, knowledge utilization, assessment of program impacts, dissemination activities and dissemination of scholarly research into the field.

IMPORTANT: There are strict institution and PI eligibility limits depending on the program applied to (see RFP for more details)

-Only one ADG, B2B, SPIO, or SPRA proposal may be submitted by an eligible (lead) institution (IHE).
-Up to two BD-Master's proposals may be submitted from an alliance.
-Up to two BD-Doctoral proposals may be submitted from an alliance.

An alliance may submit proposals to Bridges to STEM Graduate Degrees in National Priorities annual competitions. The following conditions apply:
-one proposal from each category (one BD-Master's and one BD-Doctoral)
-two BD-Master's or two BD-Doctoral proposals in a competition.

Only one proposal from an alliance institution is eligible for consideration per competition within stipulations provided for BD-Master's and BD-Doctoral above.

Those interested in applying should submit the following as a single pdf document to collabor@umn.edu no later than 4pm on: March 14, 2025

1. Cover page including PI name, department, contact information, project title, LSAMP Project type, any co-PI's name and department, and one paragraph project abstract.
2. Project summary - describe the project type, the alliance formed for this project, and a brief description of the proposal (not more than three pages).
3. Biosketch of PI and any co-PI's (2 - 5 pages, NSF, NIH, or other relevant format).
4. 2-3 names of possible reviewers (with no Conflicts of Interest) plus 5 keywords to be used as search terms for possible reviewers (can be added to Cover Page)

UMN Selection Process

  • Once the internal deadline has passed, if the number of applicants is less than or equal to the number of spots the university is allowed to send forward, the applicants automatically become the UMN nominee(s).
  • If the status of an opportunity is "First-Come, First-Served", there was not time to hold an internal review. Applicants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • If there are no applicants, the status will change to "Contact Us". At this point, the opportunity changes to a first-come, first-served opportunity.
  • If there are multiple applicants, the office coordinating the nomination will determine the review criteria and coordinate the review process. The status will change to "In Review".
  • Once the review has been completed all parties will be notified via email.
  • Nominees will be provided with an email from RIO (or the designated coordinating office) indicating that they are the university's nominee. This letter should accompany the nominee's proposal.
  • SPA is notified of the university's nominee(s) and the status is updated to "PI(s) Selected".
