Investing in research and healthcare to prevent, treat, and heal firearm-related harms
The Center encourages applications from organizations that are led by and/or serve communities most impacted by firearm violence, including Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, and Alaska Native/American Indian communities.
Funding Categories
Category 1: Capacity Building
Build the capacity of organizations and individuals involved in gun violence prevention to engage in research activities.
Category 2: Implementation and Expansion
Expand evidence-based interventions, clinical care models, educational initiatives, or communications projects alongside enhanced research capabilities. This category supports projects that have already demonstrated some level of effectiveness and are ready to be scaled or adapted to new settings or populations. Applications should describe how the project will integrate rigorous evaluation to continue building the evidence base for the intervention.
More information on the limitations on the number of applications per institution:
- Applicants can submit no more than two (2) applications per funding period. Please note that institutions with large or complex structures can have multiple applicants, who are —defined as distinct campuses, centers, divisions or affiliated entities with its own leadership and operations, or a distinct Office of Sponsored Research (OSR). For example, separate colleges within a larger university are considered distinct entities, as are schools or departments within the same institution; as such, each could submit 2 applications.
- An individual may serve as a Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator (PI or Co-PI) on only one (1) application. However, individuals may be listed as a collaborator or key personnel on up to two (2) additional applications, if the projects are clearly different and do not substantially overlap in scope, goals, or time commitment/effort.
This is a first-come, first-served opportunity, and RIO is tracking intent to submit across all of the University of Minnesota campuses, schools, and departments.
