Description:
Our programs are designed with the grantee in mind. We provide a direct path to obtain funding for organizations seeking programmatic support for STEM education at all levels. Explore each program below to find detailed eligibility and submission information. We do not expect Organizations to meet all criteria. The programs were created to provide a wide range of funding options. Organizations can meet as little as one criteria if they are able to show a unique aptitude in the development and proven outcomes of the program for which they are requesting funding.
  • STEM Sprouts - K - 5th Grade STEM
  • STEM Stars - Advanced STEM for Grades 6 - 12th Grade
  • STEM Scholars - STEM programs for and benefiting College and Post-Secondary Students
  • Teen-Tech - Grants to fund Tech Competitions

We support projects and programs that provide students and educators with enhanced resources for hands-on, STEM-based learning. This effort aligns with our mission to empower students and educators in the U.S. to regain their status as global leaders in innovation and technology.

Entrepreneurial programs that teach business, money management, marketing, leadership, strategy, financing, and startup skills.

Innovative Environmental Projects (IEPs) that utilize interdisciplinary research to identify and address critical environmental problems with cutting-edge, innovative solutions that are scalable and replicable.

Projects and programs that contribute to advancements in biomedical research and innovation to accelerate the progress in medical research and drug treatment developed specifically for high-mortality, under-funded areas of need such as pancreatic and colon cancers."

UMN Selection Process


  • Once the internal deadline has passed, if the number of applicants is less than or equal to the number of spots the university is allowed to send forward, the applicants automatically become the UMN nominee(s).
  • If the status of an opportunity is "First-Come, First-Served", there was not time to hold an internal review. Applicants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • If there are no applicants, the status will change to "Contact Us". At this point, the opportunity changes to a first-come, first-served opportunity.
  • If there are multiple applicants, the office coordinating the nomination will determine the review criteria and coordinate the review process. The status will change to "In Review".
  • Once the review has been completed all parties will be notified via email.
  • Nominees will be provided with an email from RIO (or the designated coordinating office) indicating that they are the university's nominee. This letter should accompany the nominee's proposal.
  • SPA is notified of the university's nominee(s) and the status is updated to "PI(s) Selected".
